cream sheeeeesy!

I've tried out the dairy free creamy sheese, garlic and herb. Obviously it is a cream cheese substitute, made with Soya. It tastes of soya and has a clay-like texture. I don't mind the soya flavour and the texture doesn't bother me but my (non-vegan) flatmates and friends thought it was horrible. I find it tastes better with something fresh, like some peppers or carrot on a piece of crisp bread. I've also used it as a dip for carrot sticks. I love cheese and generally like savoury spreads so this has been pretty useful for me. I'll definitely buy it again and would like to try some of the other sheese products.

It ain't cheap to be vegan

On a day out at High Street Kensington we had lunch at the food court in wholefoods. Hubby had two slices of pizza for £3.50, meanwhile my mezze plate (and it was a preety small plate) was £6.99 . Talk about overpriced! Having said that, it was very tasty.

Provamel soya Yofu

My raspberry and vanilla flavoured Yofu was quite delicious. It definitely has that soya taste, but otherwise tastes like a yoghurt. The only downside for me was the bits (from the raspberries), I prefer a smooth yoghurt. I will definitely buy these again.

So far so good

So my first day as a vegan went without a hitch. I had a readymade soup for lunch and was surprised to see how few of the fresh soups in stores are free from cream and butter. I
snacked on pretzels and fruit (2 apples, a banana and some grapes, way above my normal fruit intake!). For dinner me and my boyfriend made a vegetable curry with cauliflower, spinach, carrots and chickpeas. It tasted ok but was a bit lacking in flavour, even though we had put plenty of spices in there.

I've also bought a few dairy replacement products like oatly 'cream' and sheese 'cream cheese'. We will se how that turns out.

So far so good!

My first day as a vegan

I have officially began my first day as a vegan. I started the day with a bowl of musli with soya milk and a cup of herbal tea, nothing new there. So far so good!

And so it begins

This blog will chronicle my journey in to veganism. I have accepted a challenge from my boyfriend to see if I can stick to a vegan diet for a whole month. I kind of brought this on myself when bragging how easy I thought it would be. I love food and cooking, even though I don't always get the results I want, and have been interested in vegetarian and vegan food for a while now. I have a bit of a headstart as I love soyamilk and sometimes buy this instead of regular milk. have just enjoyed my last day as carnivore for a month and I made the most of it with beef tacos and ice cream for dessert!

I am hoping to come across some tasty vegan recipes, which I will post here.

Wish me luck.
